Caribbean Women in Film: Caribbean Film Database | TTFF

caribbean women in film

Throughout the English, Dutch, French and Spanish language Caribbean, there has always been a legacy of women in film – whether stories crafted by female writers and directors or topics that address female experiences, the Caribbean stands out from the rest of the global film industry, an industry that is dominated by male voices and male stories.

The Caribbean Film Database has dedicated this section to highlight works by female directors in an effort to continue to highlight female driven stories, and female directors’ contribution to the Caribbean film industry. Here you will find films such as Euzhan Palcy’s Rue Cases Nègres, Gloria Rolando’s 1912 Breaking the Silence, Maria Govan’s Rain, Leticia Tonas’ Cristo Rey and Mariette Monpierre’s Elza, plus many more.
